tanong: bakit against ako sa guerra?

back to the main topic:

more on "shit happens" and

more on "shit happens" and "the shit has hit the fan"

hoy buknoy, paano mo sasabihin

1. shit happens
2. the shit has hit the fan

itanong kaya natin kay president dubya?

speaking about dubya...Bush (daw) is frustrated with media questioning on war plans. alam mo, sayang talaga. sana di na sila nakipag-guerra. wala talagang pupuntahan itong kabaliwan na ito. sabi nga ni brando sa apocalypse now eh - "The horror! The horror!". total madness man.

the americans win all the battles
the americans win the war
but they lose the respect of the world.

ang pag-ebs ng mga taga-singpapore

ang pag-ebs ng mga taga-singpapore (this is not a scientific study)

The Stones could only get

The Stones could only get better (The Stones Rock Singapore)
By ONG SOH CHIN, DEPUTY EDITOR, From the Straits Times

IF MONDAY night was the first date, Wednesday night was full-on consummation. For it was on Wednesday that the Rolling Stones pulled out the stops and really hit their stride. They seemed more relaxed, too - in person and in their playing. The 7,000-strong crowd was a little different from Monday's. Not only was it more evenly mixed in terms of race, age and gender - Monday's was almost predominantly white, middle-aged and male - it also seemed more responsive.

Perhaps it had something to do with the set, which boasted a few improved variations. Instead of lesser-known numbers like Sweet Virginia and Can't You Hear Me Knocking, which were played on Monday, the Stones offered up the more familiar Angie and Midnight Rambler. The latter, with its bluesy insouciance and its teasing loping rhythms, built up to an awe-inspiring crescendo of a jam which topped Monday night's Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Angie, an obvious crowd pleaser and arguably the one song that was sorely missed on Monday night, drew roars of approval, even if Mick Jagger skirted around the high notes.

The band also served up Let It Bleed, All Down The Line, Live With Me, Thru And Thru and Happy. These came in place of Monday's Rocks Off, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Bitch, Slipping Away and Before They Make Me Run. Also missing on Wednesday were the inflatable dolls, as well as the fireworks which ended the show.

But the Rolling Stones left the stage victorious, proving that even without the props, they are still the greatest show on earth.

Jay san,

The cherry blossoms in Japan are worth seeing! We Japanese love cherry blossoms very much, because they bloom rapidly with small & modest blossoms but in a gorgeous sight as a whole and we love them also because they fall and scatter 'with good grace' in a short period. And it is always a 'spring assignment' for Japanese to get the chance to see cherry blossoms in full bloom! We also enjoy seeing cherry blossoms at night time!

Well, cherry blossoms last only 1 week or 2 weeks at longest - and according to the "cherry blossoms forecast (not weather forecast!)", the cherry blossoms will start to bloom around March 29 in Tokyo this year... So, if you come to Tokyo around May 20, you can only see the cherry trees with green leaves... Perhaps you will have to go to Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan, to see cherry blossoms at that time!

I myself will go to Tohoku district (located to northeast of Tokyo) to see cherry blossoms of old cherry trees (about 1000 years old!) with my mother on April 20-21. It's one of my hobbies to travel around to see various flowers, especially cherry blossoms. It is always a big concern for us when we should go there in order to see flowers in full bloom! Though your country always have various flowers all the year, we have 4 seasons and each season has its flowers. Therefore, we have to chase the flowering period of each flower. (And cherry blossoms are the most special one.) Jay san, I hope you will get the chance to see cherry blossoms in Japan by all means!

Best regards,

Kawamura

Red House closes its doors

Red House closes its doors for good

The Singapore Straits Times Newspaper (it's online version, that is) has linked our Tahanan Homepage in an article about the closure of one of its oldest bakeries - the Red House. Our link was called - A Filipino tourist's impression of Katong Bakery (di naman talaga kami tourist dito eh - HOY, mga OFW kami!!! hehehe).

Niyayabang ko lang, pasensya na. hehehe... if you want to read the full article, go to THE STRAITS TIMES INTERACTIVE: Red House closes its doors for good - MARCH 24, 2003. sana man lang eh nagpaalam sa amin ang mga kulokoy.

Singapore is such a young nation and does not have much of a "sense of history". Sometimes, it allows the destruction of its old structures and be converted into new buildings and new shops. It does retain a lot of its old structures. But, in this case, I think it has failed. I hope I'm wrong because the Red House is a special place.

and that, ladies and gentlemen, in the words of mr. andy warhol is my 15 minutes. thank you very much for your understanding. hehehe... actually si jet ang nagsulat ng text, so credit goes to her. she's a much better writer than i could ever be.

para sa mahilig sa guerra,

para sa mahilig sa guerra, here's a protest song, galing sa panahon ng mga hippie...try to download this song, maantig ang damdamin ninyo...MAGBAGO NA KAYO, mga war prick! este war freak pala!

Barry McGuire
Eve of destruction

The Eastern world, it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'.
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin',
You don't believe in war -- but what's that gun you're totin'?
An' even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'.

But you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say,
An' can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away,
There'll be no one to save, will the world in a grave.
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy.

An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here just contemplatin'.
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of senators don't pass legislation,
An' marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'.

An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China,
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama.
Ah, you may leave here for four days in space,
But when you return it's the same ol' place,
The poundin' of the drums, the pride an' disgrace.
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace.
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,

An' tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction,
No, no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

FIRST DAY OF SPRING AT

FIRST DAY OF SPRING AT AKO'Y NADAPA (wala namang spring kasi sa singapore eh)

The Unseen Gulf War by

The Unseen Gulf War by Peter Turnley - The Digital Journalist

tingnan nyo itong litratong

oh yeah. nagkakahulihan ngayon dito

oo nga pala, i got a great iraq joke today:

The UN asks the American representative to the UN, "What proof do you have that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction?"

... the American representative replies "We kept the receipts."

."

ang ulam ko ngayong

Maybe the hardest thing I've

Maybe the hardest thing I've ever done
Was to walk away from you
Leaving behind the life that we'd begun
I split myself in two

Proud and alone, cold as a stone
Rolling down that hill into the night
I could see the surprise and the hurt in your eyes
From behind each flashing city light

Love needs a heart and I need to find
If loves needs a heart like mine

Love won't come near me, she don't even hear me
She walks past my vacancy sign
Love needs a heart, trusting and blind
I wish that heart was mine

"love needs a heart" from the 80's classic "running on empty" CD of jackson browne. dedicated to the recently loveless, mga SMAP (samahan ng mga malalamig ang pasko), at mga kasalukunyang nag-iisa, saan man kayo sa mundo ngayon. this is probably in my top five records to bring if i'm stranded on a desert island (medyo high-fidelityish. have you read the book or seen the movie?). the other four are:

the beatles, white album
carol king, tapestry
pink floyd, dark side of the moon
eric clapton, unplugged

malakas ang appeal sa akin ng plakang ito. siguro dahil ginawa ito while jackson browne was on the road. para sa isang byaherong tulad ko, i can identify with the stories he mentions in the songs... the moving from town to town so much that all the places and the faces all begin to look the same.

everytime na kainuman ko ang mga kaibigan ko sa bahay namin sa antipolo ay pinapatugtog ko ang "running on empty" CD. from the first song to the last, we all sing the lyrics. hehehe... siguro isip ng mga kapit-bahay ko, eto na naman ang grupo nga mga luko-luko at nag-iingay na naman. i first heard this record when i was in high school. i bought it as a tape (18 pesos), then record (25 pesos - remember those black round things?) and then finally - CD (450 pesos).

i can even remember the day i got the CD. it was in hong kong and i was there for a two week training. it was a cold and wet march afternoon in 1994 and i was walking along nathan road. there it was in a small record shop, the "running on empty" CD. nakabungad sa harap ng tindahan and just waiting for me to cross the seas and buy it... i did, and it's the same CD i play again and again when i'm with friends. i used to play it a lot in my car stereo in manila, especially when i'm coming home from a long day at work and it's a slightly rainy evening. i have it here in singapore and i'm playing it right now.

the stones are coming to

the stones are coming to town. oh baby. right here and now. The Rolling Stones Licks World Tour 2003 heads for singapore on march 24 and 26. si idol carlos din ay pupunta rito sa april 8 for the Santana - Shaman World Tour 2003. two great live performers... WOW galing man.

(picks up the phone and buys the tickets), ayan nakabili na ako ng ticket by phone. hehehe. mahal baby. (ayan ah, nanghihinayang na ako). jet and i will attend the first stones concert on march 24. now we look forward to seeing them live. chang-chang-cha-ra-ra-rang (guitar intro for sound epeks), i can't get no satisfaction... ROCK AND ROLL!!!

what are my favorite stones songs? lemme think... "wild horses", "sympathy for the devil", "jumpin jack flash, its a gas, gas, gas" and my all time favorite maybe becuase of the novelty of it... FARAWAY EYES

Faraway Eyes
(M.Jagger-K.Richards)

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
listening to Gospel music on the colored radio station,
and the preacher said, "You know you always have the Lord by your side."
I was so pleased to be informed of this,
that I ran 20 red lights in his honor.
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord.

I had made arrangements to meet a girl
but I was a kind of late
and I thought by the time I got there she'd be off -
she'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find:

Much to my surprise, there she was sitting in the
corner (a little bleary eyed - worse for wear and
tear) was the girl with faraway eyes.

So if you're down on your luck
and you can't harmonize,
Find a girl with faraway eyes

And if you're downright disgusted
and life ain't worth a dime,
Get a girl with faraway eyes.

Well the preacher kept right on saying
that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to Church of the Sacred Bleeding
Heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California, and
next week they'd say my prayer on the radio and
all my dreams would come true.

So I did and next week I got a prayer for the girl, well
you know what kind of eyes she's got...

So if you're down on your luck
I know y'all sympathize,
Find a girl with faraway eyes.

And if you're downright disgusted
and life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with faraway eyes.

So if you're down on your luck
I know y'all sympathize,
Find a girl with faraway eyes.

davao on my mind sa

davao on my mind

kahapon ang date ay 030303. suwerte raw ito sa mga cantonese kaya 170 couples decided to get married. this is more than twice the average daily marriages in singapore... what does this tell you? mahilig talaga ang mga intsik sa mga numero. very ominous ang mga meaning ng numbers sa kanila... sa mga chinese paintings ng mga isda at tao - karamihan ay 9 fishes swimming in a pond or 9 people walking on a path. that sort of thing... uy, gagawa ako ng tula:

9 fishes swimming in a pond,
9 people walking on a path.
9 agnostic sheep dream men jumping fences,
insomnia got them in the end.

hehehe... last 2 lines inspired by RoboPoet: The Random Poetry Generator by Sherry Nelson

i digress...balik tayo: speaking of the number 3, kagabi ay may aksidente rito. for the first time, may isang benz na nawalan ng control at pumatong sa riles ng MRT. buti na lang at may isang mabait na truck driver ang tumulong sa driver ng benz. dahil kahit nakapag break ang train ay sumalpak pa rin ito sa kotse.

it took 3 hours to get the car out of the rails and it stalled traffic in the city till late at night. the number of the train that hit the car on 030303 is 3333.

tuninuni-nuni-nuni (twilight zone music)....

i digress, sige politically incorrect man or racist, aaminin ko. AYOKO NG MABAHUNG TAO. ako'y pinoy: masipag, matiyaga, makisig, makadiyos, mabango, naliligo araw-araw at walang kili-kili power.

march 1 na. sa pilipinas,

march 1 na. sa pilipinas, umpisa na ng kalbaryo. malapit na namang uminit ng husto. malapit na rin ang summer vacation. alala ko tuloy ang kanta ni k.d. lang na "summer fling". if you plan to go on a trip during the philippine summer vacation, make sure to play this song while you're driving to your bakasyon place.

"the river"... kanta ng isang nangangarap na ofw. actually, ito'y isang christmas song na medyo folksy ang dating, tungkol sa broken na relationship. nilikha ni joni mitchell ito nung 1971 at galing sa walang kamatayang plakang "BLUE". i kid you not, this is a great CD. kung gusto nyo naman, buy her greatest hits CD called... what else "HITS". well, she also has another CD called "MISSES" . "hits" for her greatest songs, and "misses" for the songs she thinks are great. it's a compromise i think because the record label wanted to release a box set but she disagreed. so, to keep everyone happy, they released two cd's - one called "HITS" and the other called "MISSES". 1971, ang tagal na no? kinder pa lang ako nung time na yon. eto pa nga pala: "big yellow taxi" ang pangalan ng theme song ng bagong pelikula ni hugh grant at sandra bullock na "two weeks notice" . ito ay kanta ni joni mitchelle at ibinalik lang ulit.

anyway, there's a line in "the river" about "making a lot of money and quitting this crazy scene" that always reminds me why i'm here and not in manila where i belong. sa amin ni jet, ipon nang sapat na pera tapos uwi na to retire while young. datung, ito lang ang dahilan kung bakit marami sa atin ang nangingibang bansa. para kumita ng pera para yung mga mahal natin ay makakain, makapag-aral at mabuhay ng disente. para may pangsine, pambili ng phonecard, pampagawa ng bahay.

but at what cost? tangna, dami ko nang nakitang pamilyang nasira dahil si tatay o si nanay ay OFW. malaki man ang sweldo mo sa ibang bansa, mataas din ang singil ng kapalaran sa iyo... it's a conundrum, baby. in short, magisip nang matagal at planuhing maigi. a few tips:

huwag basta basta aalis, pagisipan munang maigi

5. know your priorities: bakit ka naging OFW? Para may pera para sa Pambili ng bahay, Pag-aaral ng Anak, Pagkain at IPON. stick with your priorities before spending on other stuff.

6. isipin parati na wala kang security of tenure. kahit anong oras ay pwede kang pauwiin. kung kaya: SIGURADUHIN NA MAY PERA KA SA BANKO NA GOOD FOR SIX MONTHS NA PWEDE MONG GASTUSIN PAG NABAKANTE KA. itong perang ito ang magiging fall back mo pag nasa pilipinas ka at naghihintay uli ng tawag galing sa mga employer.

7. keep your contacts and stay in touch with what's going on with your profession at home. marami akong nakitang OFW na umuwi for good na naubos ang naipon dahil di na makahanap ng trabaho sa pilipinas.

BTW: kinanta nga pala ito ni robert downey jr. sa alley mcbeal in one of their christmas episodes. the scene just kills me everytime i see it on the reruns at star tv...

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace

Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly

Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
